"I come from a musical place
Where they shoot me for my song
And my brother has been tortured
By my brother in my land..."
My interpretation of this stanza is that the author explains why he has left his homeland even though it is a beautiful, musical place. In that homeland, he is banned from doing what he desires to do, probably expressing his ideologies, religious beliefs or even wearing certain types of clothes. I think this is why he refers to his native land as musical. I would not imagine a person leaving a country for whatever reason and not considering it beautiful in spite of troubles. In the second line he clearly states that people are killed in this land for expressing feelings or beliefs. He may be referring to many African and Asian republics where the main reason for people to escape is precisely religious and ideological persecution. In the third line, he in a way criticizes the fact that his brothers, friends and civilians from his nation are being tortured. The irony here is that the murderers are not from abroad but from their very own country...brothers killing brothers.
